11.30am – Pigtown Cookery Demo with Chef Ciara Brennan of Happy Food at Home, ‘The Firefighting Chef’ Paul Knapp of TV3 and more guests (free)

Join us for the weekly Pigtown Cookery Demo upstairs at the Milk Market Mezzanine. We kick off the series with a Back to School event in conjunction with the launch of the ‘Foodie Bag’ stall, all geared to make life easier, healthier, efficient and balanced:

11.30am – 12.30pm: Ciara Brennan (Happy Food at Home) and Theresa Storey (The Green Apron) will be showing how to make three flavoured plant based patties, protein bars and one pot luck delicious dish for the oven, which are ideal for lunch and lunch boxes, freezer, or dinners – huge time savers, simple and no hassle.

12.30pm: Emma Cross from Embody Fitness will be showing parents how to do a quick 10 minute workout at home, working all the pressure points to keep the energy levels high.

1.00pm: Paul Knapp, the Firefighting Chef from TV3’s Ireland AM, will show us how to cook from Foodie Bag (nut loaf and curry). Ideal for putting in the fridge or freezer for the week ahead and some great chutney recipes for fruits of the table, which are great accompaniments to go with any dish that needs a bit of jazzing up.

7.30pm – Pigtown Talks (free)

Join us for Pigtown Talks at the Milk Market Gallery looking back at Limerick’s food heritage with the famous bacon factories of Shaw’s, Denny’s, Matterson’s and O’Mara’s, Cleeve’s confectioners and condensed milk, Ranks milling, our breweries and more with local historians and guests including modern day Limerick food producers and food brands.

This week Stephen Cunneen from Treaty City Brewery kicks off the Pigtown Talks series as he delves into the rich history of brewing and distilling in Limerick City.

12pm – Pigtown Cookery Demo with Chef Eithne Gavigan of LIT & Chef Tom Flavin of Limerick Strand Hotel (free)

Join us for the weekly Pigtown Cookery Demo upstairs at the Milk Market Mezzanine with guest chef Eithne Gavigan, lecturer of Culinary Arts at LIT’s Department of Food & Tourism, and Tom Flavin, Executive Chef of the Limerick Strand Hotel and Fáilte Ireland Food Champion with plenty of awards under his belt such as Best Chef in Limerick, Best Hotel Restaurant in Munster, and winner of Ireland’s Menu Provenance Award at the 2017 Gold Medal Awards.

6pm – The Limerick Food Mile “This little piggy went to town…

Visit FOUR of Limerick’s top restaurants and have one course in each with wine/beer pairing before moving on to the next venue!

The Limerick Strand Hotel, Azur Limerick, The Savoy Hotel and Sash Restaurant at No. 1 Pery Square are joining forces to present “The Limerick Food Mile”, a unique culinary experience, reflecting the resilience and passion of the people of Limerick.

The event consists of an exclusive 4-course meal, each course served at a different restaurant with each chef proudly presenting a course consisting of exciting innovative Pigtown-themed locally sourced food. Each course will be paired with local Treaty City Beer (wine also available).

Troy Chauffeurs has also come onboard so there’s no need to worry about travelling from one establishment to the other as they shall transfer guests between each location in luxury.

Join us for Pigtown Talks at the Milk Market Gallery looking back at Limerick’s food heritage… Once a major employer in Limerick and the largest dairy company in the British Isles – Cleeves of Limerick sent its products to every part of the British Empire. This week local historians Micheal O Sullivan and Tom Toomey will discuss how this incredible company came about and its impact on our city and surrounds.

Join us for the weekly Pigtown Cookery Demo upstairs at the Milk Market Mezzanine. This week’s guest chef is the renowned Wade Murphy of 1826 Adare, winner of more plaudits and awards than we can count – including Michelin Bib Gourmand, Best Chef in Munster and Best Restaurant in Munster.

8pm – Bottom Dog Theatre Company celebrates 10 years

Bottom Dog Theatre Company celebrate ten years making theatre in Limerick. This special gala fundraising performance at Belltable Arts Centre features scenes and songs from all their 14 shows to date. #PigtownFringe


11am – Urban Foraging Walk with Theresa Storey

Come along and learn about the wild and feral, edible and medicinal plants growing right in our doorsteps. Led by Local Author and Ethnobotanist Theresa Storey from The Green Apron. The walk will take approximately 2 hours and will include tastings of wild food. Cost €25.00 meet @11am at the Hunt Museum. Prebooking is essential- email Theresa@thegreenapron.ie

From 1pm – Springfield Castle Pigtown BBQ Sunday Lunch

Sunday lunch BBQ for Pigtown at ‘The Green Room’ at Springfield Castle, Dromcollogher, Co Limerick, with meats on Argentinian Asado and delicious fresh toppings €40pp includes glass of wine/beer. Bookings on 087-2503905 or 087-6474846.


 

From 7.30pm – Swine & Wine at Limerick Strand Hotel

Nose to Tail Wine Tasting Dinner served in AA Rosette River Restaurant for an amazing 4-course wine dinner featuring the very best of local seasonal produce. Executive Chef Tom Flavin will showcase his talents and present an exceptional four course menu. To celebrate the Pigtown Food Series, the menu shall be Pigtown-themed and shall include dishes such as Nose to tail Terrine, Pressed Belly of Pork, and Black Pudding to name a few. Each course paired with wine/beer. Cost €49.00 per person to include welcome drink. Tickets are available via the hotel


FRI 21 SEP Pig Parade

6.30pm –  Culture Night Pig Parade (free)

Follow the Pig Parade through the streets of Limerick for Culture Night in a fun-filled family highlight. Face painting, food stalls, balloons and entertainment so gather early! Parade leaving at 7pm sharp, gathering from 6.30pm. Full route to be revealed very soon. Check back for updates!

Parade finishes at the Milk Market for ‘Pigtown comes to the Milk Market’ party featuring Street Food, Cooking Demo, Music and lots more.

Join us for the weekly Pigtown Cookery Demo upstairs at the Milk Market Mezzanine. This week’s guest chef is talented Limerick man Peter Jackson, Executive Chef at the Armada Hotel, Co. Clare, finalist Ireland’s Executive Chef of the Year and winner of Ireland’s inaugural Cono Sur Chef Challenge.


 

1pm – Free Animation Workshop with Krooked Tease upstairs in the Milk Market

Join local animators Krooked Tease for a free animation workshop upstairs at the Milk Market. Learn the process of bringing your own character to life with this animation workshop. Krooked Tease will be in the Milk Market on Saturday and Sunday with a fundraiser raffle collection to win a gift basket worth €100 – all donations go towards the funding of their pilot episode. 6pm – Autumn Tree Seed Collection Walk in Curaghchase

Learn how to collect and plant tree seeds for the forests and hedges of the future with biodiversity expert Niamh Ní Dhuill. From acorns, hazels to elderberries, we will see what we can find in the woods and how to grow them on to become saplings that can be planted out in 1-2 years. Meeting Time: 6.00-7.30pm. PigLIT launches Taste restuarantWED 26 SEP  

From 7pm – Pigtown Tasting Menu at LIT

Limerick Institute of Technology’s Food and Tourism Department will host a Pigtown Tasting Menu produced by LIT students presented at the college’s ‘Taste’ restaurant. Advance booking recommended. Cost is €25pp. Bookings and for further details email Ann at taste@lit.ie

Join us for the weekly Pigtown Cookery Demo upstairs at the Milk Market Mezzanine. The final demo of the month welcomes Mike Tweedie, Head Chef at Adare Manor’s The Oak Room fine dining restaurant. Since the recent relaunch of the five star luxury destination resort in County Limerick, Mike Tweedie’s acclaimed cooking has been garnering attention from all quarters. A semi-finalist in the international S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2018 competition, it’s a great treat to see this exciting young chef in action.
